Ready, Set, Create! Color Challenge 3

Sorry today's color challenge is a bit late. I awoke at 3 am with another migraine-- the weather has changed again. I know (Sharon's gonna nag me *wink*), I really need to get in to a doctor to get help for these things... and I will, soon.

Today the phone company is coming "sometime between 8 am and 8 pm" to fix two of our phone jacks that don't work. Also today-- my new catalog order is arriving! I got lots of new ribbon, a couple stamp sets, some patterned papers, and new punches. I can't wait to start playing!

 On to today's challenge... Last week I blurfed over to House of Turquoise, and this week (wanting to make this a little easier, what with the migraine and all) I turned to their sister site... The Chocolate Blues. And I found this:

Another Color Challenge...

Yup, I've taken on yet another color challenge... this time from Kristina Werner. In fact, she's the one who inspired me to go out and find my own color inspiration. *wink*

Kristina's colors this week are Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette, Certainly Celery, and Very Vanilla. If it sounds like a lot of colors-- it is! I'm not someone who usually puts a lot of layers on cards (I love the look, but don't often take the time to do so much!) and this combo seemed to want a lot of layers. Then I remembered this card by Kristin Moore. I could easily do that!

Accessories: Pretty in Pink taffeta ribbon, Silver brads, 1/16" punch, Corner Rounder punch, Crafter's Tool Kit, Stampin' Dimensionals, paper clip

I think most any card looks a bit naked without ribbon. (Ask my roommates from convention last year... "this swap needs ribbon, and this one, and this one, and this one!") I tried making this card with the ribbon in a couple different ways, and finally settled on the paper clip method I used a couple days ago.

CC181: Krafty Black Roses...

I'm really enjoying the challenges! And I haven't stamped quite so often in for-EV-er! This time I went to the General SCS Challenge forum and chose this week's Color Challenge. Since I usually start out with choosing my colors, these color challenges are right up my alley! *wink*

Emily posted the challenge of  Basic Black, Rose Red, and Kraft. I knew right away I wanted to use my set "Ebrace Life"-- it has an elegant feel that would be perfect with those colors. I looked through the galleries for a layout idea, but as soon as I saw Jenn D's gorgeous card, plans went from just a layout inspiration to a direct CASE.

I cut four of this card, but only completed the one-- making that scallop border takes a little time, and Jason decided not to nap yesterday! I have Rose Red grosgrain ribbon coming on Friday, so I want to try the card with that instead of the Kraft taffeta. If I like it, I'll post that version later. *grin*

WW065... Workshop Wow Demo Challenge

So I started my own challenge... participated in Shelli's challenge... time to move on to the Demonstrator challenges from the SCS forums (you'll only be able to access these challenges if you're a member of the Demo forums). Last Wednesday's challenge was a doozy for me:

In honor of school starting, the challenge is to create a card using red, yellow, and blue, plus an office supply-- staples, paperclips, etc. Now, I'm not much of a Bold Brights kinda gal, so I toned it down a little using a red, yellow, blue combo from the Rich Regals color family.

I started out using a sketch challenge, too... based on Kristina Werner's card which I CASE'd a couple times back in July. But my card just didn't want to cooperate with that design. I am very pleased with the end result!

Under the Influence?

No, not that kind of influence! lol! But as I glanced over at my printer (which is sitting directly next to my monitor) I saw my color challenge for this week! I had printed out Stampin' Up!'s In Color combination chart... a sheet of color suggestions with four colors in each grouping. Looking at it just now, the challenge colors jumped out at me. Seems like I was influenced in my choice! lol!

Now, upon closer inspection, the chart shows Ridinghood Red in place of Rose Red, but Teal, Kiwi, and Black are all there!

Anyway, I got to creating yesterday afternoon, taking the layout (and flipping it) from the Inspiration Sheet for Merry.

You may notice that I used Basic Gray for the greeting. I wanted something softer than Basic Black, and while I tried Taken with Teal, it was just too soft. Basic Gray was the perfect balance!

Wow Flowers!

I caved... I wasn't going to preorder much more than the new In Colors (which are absolutely scrumptious!), but I decided at almost the last second to add Wow Flowers and its coordinating Simply Sent Card Elements Kit, Flower Power.

Boy, am I glad I did! In just a couple hours yesterday, I whipped up nine delightful cards, ready to send off!

Called for but not used: staples. I haven't uncovered my stapler from the myriad of boxes still cluttering my house. Would have been helpful, but not necessary: Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.

And after I was done with all those cards, guess what I had left... two half sheets of textured card stock (Rose Red and Old Olive), one quarter sheet plus a scrap of textured card stock (Perfect Plum), and one half sheet plus *lots* of scraps of Designer Series Paper. Plenty to make two more full cards, and more to add on to card stock I already have! I plan on working on these later this afternoon.
