BKCC#7... My cards

I knew when I saw the photo I picked that the colors would be so elegant... I was right! (pats self on back) I love how my cards turned out... even if Gold Encore ink is a pain in the patootie to work with. You see, it doesn't like to dry very easily. I blasted it with my heat gun, and that helped quite a bit.

The first card is a simple tri-fold (though I'm not quite sure it's called a "tri" fold when there are clearly two folds... lol!). First score your 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" cardstock at 4-1/4", then score again at 2-1/8". I placed the inside layer first (Mary and Joseph) then carefully placed the Wise Men layer on top so that when the card is closed, it's "hiding" the inside layer.

I love the gold on black! *grin* But I wasn't quite pleased with this card. So I looked around the galleries on Splitcoast and found a card that used Cami's Trifold design (see the tutorial by Beate Johns).

I adore this card! The only thing I would change would be to leave the snowflakes off the front-- just have them on the middle panel.

I love looking at home decor catalogs. Some of them are way out of my price range... but they're soooo pretty! This site falls into that category. Things I won't be able to afford for a long, long, long time, but great eye candy, to be sure! *wink*

I love the elegance of the "Sultan Night" bedding from Horchow.

BKCC#5... Take Two

My husband found a package of batteries Friday night. We still have a TON of boxes to unpack... and nowhere left to unpack them TO. So they sit in the garage until we need something and go "hunting". Corey was looking for a few things he needed for his and the boys' 10-mile hike (they went Saturday morning... it took 5 hours... but they didn't complain too badly).

Anyway, the found batteries meant I could photograph my second card for this challenge. Besides the colors from the photo, I also used the design on the wall as inspiration. I mostly love how this card turned out... not wild about the dots around the top, though.

BKCC#5... Sort of...

It must be that you all were as busy as I've been... no submissions this week. My first card is a repeat of one I did for Stamp Club a couple years ago-- it was very popular then, so I decided to re-do it with a new stamp set and some newer ribbon. I tried to tie in the Certainly Celery, but with this card, it just didn't work. *sigh* My next card was much more successful, but the camera didn't want to cooperate. grr! So anyway, here's my "sort of" CC#5 card.

Shimmery Snowflakes

Stamp Sets: Snow Swirled
Ink: Lavender Lace Classic Stampin' Pad, Elegant Eggplant Classic Stampin' Pad
Paper: Shimmery White card stock
Accessories: Elegant Eggplant 1/4" grosgrain ribbon, Basic Gray taffeta ribbon, mini glue dots, Sponge Dauber, Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.

I made a mask of scrap paper (3/4" margin on the sides, 1" margin on the top and bottom) then used a sponge dauber to ink in the center of the card with Lavender Lace. I then stamped the two large snowflakes in Elegant Eggplant, removed the mask, and stamped two medium snowflakes outside of the sponged-in area. I replaced the mask and filled in the rest of the Lavender Lace rectangle with medium and small snowflakes. Removed the mask again, and then used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the greeting. I added another medium snowflake to the inside of the card to carry the theme. Voi-la!

You can kind of see the shimmer of the card stock in the second photo... but even that picture doesn't do this card justice! You have to see it in real life to appreciate it.

I'll be getting new batteries for my camera tomorrow... so that I can take a good picture of that second card. Now to get stamping on this week's color challenge!

Ready, Set, Create! Color Challenge 6

I realize that I haven't posted my challenge 5 creations yet... it's been a busy week. I had two swaps due this week (one with 60 card fronts, the other with two groups of 15 card fronts)... I got both mailed out on time... barely! *grin* My boys both helped me with my swaps... and I would NOT have gotten my last one done in time to mail yesterday without Jon's help. I just wish I'd snapped a picture! He cut ribbon into the right lengths, corner-rounded my focal images, SNAIL'ed left and right, and slapped dimensionals on. He's a gem! Matthew helped a few days ago by coloring a few (dozen!) images with me.

Anyway, I got my Bed Bath & Beyond mailer today and saw this pretty bedding set in fall colors. It's been feeling a little more like fall here (cool, crisp mornings!), so these colors seem quite timely now. *grin*

Sorry this challenge is so late... we had record rainfall in Lubbock yesterday, and school was cancelled by 10:00 last night... which meant we slept in this morning! Ahhhh, I love sleeping in. *wink*

I was looking at the Pottery Barn Kids website today... I love how they show the "rooms" all decorated with each collection! And then you can just click to select the items you want to purchase. No, I didn't buy anything today... but I saw this picture and knew it had to be today's Color Challenge.
