Well, the kids and I had fun. ;) It was a "murphy's law" kinda trip, though. Corey was sick with a baaad head cold (which he passed on to me, sick today), but didn't want to postpone, so we went anyway. The campsite (Villanueva State Park in NM) was beautiful, but not high up enough in the mountains to really get out of the heat (we would have had to go for 1-1/2 to 2 more hours for that... next time, we will!).
Arrival day went great, we had good dinner (but Corey didn't pack lighter fluid, and got regular charcoal instead of the quick kind, so it took a while for the coals to get hot enough). The kids went to sleep pretty well. The 3-yr-old kept chattering, and the rest of the kids thought they had to chatter back. But eventually all was quiet.
Next day... I forgot the sausage for breakfast... but pancakes and eggs were yum. We lazed about for most of the morning, then had lunch (planned on grilled cheese sandwiches, but we decided it was too hot, so we had cheese and crackers and watermelon instead). At lunch we discovered that eldest DS decided to drain the water from the cooler at breakfast... so the stuff inside was not as cold as it could be... That was not too bad, we could go into town for more ice later.
Went to start the van before going down to the river... and the van wouldn't start. So I took the kids down to the river (where they had a blast!-- the river was to my knees at the deepest point, and not too fast moving, even for the 3-yr-old) while Corey asked around for a jump-start.
I got back to the camp and found that Corey had started packing up. In addition to the battery thing, the coolant was very low, so the engine was overheating, and that was just the final straw. ;) We were on the road heading back home after just 24 hours... but we have experience to make next time better!

And here are some strawberries that we harvested from our garden last week... I was lucky to get a photo-- Jason usually finds and eats them before any of the rest of us see them! lol!
